January was a great start to the year, I had a shoot in Al Ain followed by covering the players for Golf Monthly and Footjoy in Abu Dhabi. A 12 hour stop off back in the Uk was all I had to upload, change my wardrobe and clear my head before I was back on a plane Orlando bound.

I stayed with the GM team at a course 40 minutes outside town and it was here that I was introduced to Sam Horsfield. Sam is British but has spent most of his young years growing up in the States on a course called Highland Reserve. This is the young lad that Ian Poulter was tweeting about back end of last year and for a good reason too. Just 17 he plays off +7 (yes correct +7) and is currently ranked No 5 in the world amateur rankings.

He’s a quiet likeable young man who is probably the most natural golfer I’ve played with since teeing up with Rory at Royal County Down when he was also 17.

As for his golf he was 4 under through 9 holes with 3 lip outs. His short term plan is to stay as an Amateur and go to college, however with a lot of big brands and agents closely following his progress this could all change very quickly.

Watch out for this lad, he’s good, really good.
