Flying into Orlando seemed like a good idea. I’d done my reseach and was happy with a four hour drive to Harbour town my first location on this very busy road trip. However 7 hours later when I turned up at the Harbour Town Yacht Club, Atlanta and an internal flight to Savannah would have been a much easier option.

My first shoot was at the famous Harbour Town, a front had come in and I started the day shooting in some very heavy drizzle. I was on a tight schedule so this was my only chance to get some shots. Everything I was told about the course was true even in the bad weather the beauty of the course shone through.

My next stop was to North Carolina to shoot Pinehurst No2, again what looked on the map as an easy drive took another 5 hours to get there.

The weather was fantastic and I managed to secure some great shots that first evening, I spent the next day covering the course and even managed to play it that afternoon. I would put No 2 in my top 5 courses, it’s going to be a great year in 2014 with back to back Opens!

Next morning I was on my way to Kiawah Island to shoot the famous Ocean course, but before I left Pine hurst I was advised to go and shoot Mid Pines just 3 miles down the road. Another Donald Ross course that didn’t dissapoint!

Eventually I got to Kiawah, once you are on the island you still have a 45 minute journey to the course going through several security points on the way. The light wasn’t great that evening but I did manage to bag a couple of decent images. The next morning was beautiful with clear blue skies, I would have loved to play the Ocean Course as it is easily the toughest Course I’ve shot. But I needed to be back in Orlando that evening to get the house ready and stocked up with essentials for my 3 buddies flying over from the UK for the 2nd part of the trip…. to be continued.
