I’ve been looking forward to this trip for several months. Steeped in history and ranked no 20 in Golf Monthly’s top 100 and 56 in the world rankings by top 100 golf courses, Ganton is a very special Golf Club. located just a few miles from Scarborough, it’s not the easiest course to get to, however once there you know that the journey was more than worth it.

The hospitality and the catering was second to none, I can thoroughly recommend the Ganton Cake which is served with Port and Stilton.

I didn’t get the weather that was forecast and so the first 2 days were overcast but did offer some alternative interesting light.

This did give me a chance to catch up on the history especially the Harry Vardon connection, He was the professional there for 7 years winning several Opens and the USA Open during his employment. Ganton has also hosted the Ryder Cup, The Curtis and the Walker cups, one of only 3 courses to hold this record.

On my last morning I was on the course at 4.30am, again it was overcast but this time the forecast was right and the sun began to creep through the low clouds, this offers a magical light that we snappers can only dream of.

I’m very happy with the results especially with one shot which I would put in my top 5 to date.
