Just recently I was commissioned by the Links Trust to shoot the Castle course for their new web site. My brief was to approach this in a slightly different way to how I would normally shoot a course.

SAL were after a mix of images, my normal hero shots were still needed but so were more conventional angles reflecting the approach shots to the green.

As always I had a great time at St Andrews it never disappoints and as I have many friends there it makes for an easy trip. However there was a slight mishap when I was finishing off the shoot on Tuesday evening.

I was on the 17th trying to get the last shot of the day, but because I was shooting directly into the setting sun I abandoned that idea and set off to the club house. There are 2 routes back and one of them has been closed by 3 wooden posts because it’s probably a bit too dangerous for buggies.

I decided to take the right hand route (the closed one) which because I was driving directly into the sun didn’t see the stakes barring the route.

I hit them at full speed, which catapulted me forward with no form of defence directly into the steering wheel, my cameras bounced back of the screen to smash me in the face. The end result was a bloody nose and 2 cracked ribs.

Not my best moment and when I relay the story, which I have done many times, every one seems to see the funny side of the tale.

4 weeks later I’m still taking the pain killers and dissapointedly still not able to swing a club.

People who know me well will probably be saying, nothing has changed!
