Having just arrived back from a short family break, it was back to business with another flight from Gatwick. I arrived at St Andrews at 3pm on Tuesday the first practice day. The unique buzz that goes with a British Open was in full flight, entering the media centre to get my accreditation a sea of the world’s sports media heads were busily bobbing up and down in front of screens and laptops. The first 2 days I had access inside the ropes, my duty for the week was to supply daly images for the Links Trust web site. Wednesday was literally a complete washout with most of the players deciding to stay dry and not using the second chance of getting to grips with the course.

The Past winners 4 hole comp was cancelled because of the extreme conditions, this was a real shame as many had turned up to support these great players of the past. And so to the first round, it was here that to my dismay I found out that I didn’t have full accreditation for the 4 competition days. This made my life very difficult as I didn’t have access to clean shots of the players and also a quicker route around the course. I endeavored to do my best and get some shots that were usable. I think I was averaging about 10 miles a day with walks from the car park to media centre up to the 11th and over to Eden Club house to download images.Just as well as it gave me a chance to walk off the porridge and cooked breakfast that the lovely John and Nuala my hosts for the week, cooked for me every day. I also had to shoot some images of Andrew Coulthard, who is a real gentleman and still a brilliant golfer, he very kindly gave up some of his 3rd round warm up time to shoot some images for one of his sponsors, Power Balance.

The 4 brilliant rounds by Louis Oosthuizen fully deserved to enable him to pick up the most famous trophy in Golf. It was a good week rounded off by 18 holes with my son Patrick on the Kittocks course at the Fairmont. Role on St George’s!
