We spent 3 days at the Volvo Golf Champions tournament, the weather forecast wasn’t looking great in fact rain was promised and lots of it. Our journey took us north of Durban to Selborne Park golf club. I had visited this part of South Africa many years ago and I don’t think Selborne existed then but apart from the courseĀ  it was good to see that not much had changed in this area.

The rain fell heavily making shooting the course very difficult, it also knocked out the electricity for a few hours and so we had supper by candle light with our host Glyn Jones telling us great stories and plying us with plenty of the local red wine. It was one of those great evenings!

The next day our driver Sudesh took us on a 2 hour journey back through Durban and along the coast to Princes Grant golf course. Our Host there was course manager Mike McNamara. Mike played 18 holes with us and it was a shame that the weather didn’t allow us to see this course at it’s best, it really is stunning, you can get an idea from the shot of the 10th which was the view from My balcony. I’m hoping to return and get some better weather to reshoot the course with some sunshine!

Our final stop and last day was up into the valley of a thousand hills to the Cotswold Downs golf course, luckily we were given buggies to play the course as it’s not one you would want to walk. The scenery takes in the rolling hills of the area with some descents from tee to green very precarious especially when wet.

We managed to finish out round in time for a quick shower and change before heading off to the the airport for a 10 hour flight to Dubai, the next part of our trip.
