I recently was asked to go on a press trip to visit Alsace in France. The idea was to help promote Golf in this region. I wasn’t sure at first if I could spare the time but as it turned out my schedule changed and the next thing you know is that I’m on the Eurostar to Paris with 3 other journo’s.

I decided to leave my clubs at home, the main reason for this was because of the train journey out, we had to change at Paris Gare du Nord to Paris Gare de L’Est, which is only a 10 minute walk and with all of my equipment I thought that this was a good move. However playing 3 new courses with 3 different sets of hire clubs doesn’t set you up with a consistent game to play your best golf, so looking back it wasn’t one of my best decisions!

Not knowing anything about Alsace (even where it was) wasn’t a problem as we had Maxime Reinagel the tourist press officer for the region to show us around. I was really impressed with this part of France, the people, food, local wine and golf courses were fantastic. The 3 courses we played were Le Golf de la Wantzenau, the Alsace Golf Club and Golf de Larlague, 3 completely different courses but all a real pleasure to play. We ended the trip with a tour of the international Automobile Museum in Mulhouse. It’s the most prestigious car collection in the world and really worth the visit.
