One of Troon Golf’s most exciting new projects is the Allegria Golf Club in Egypt. Just a week before Christmas I’m on my way to Heathrow for my flight to Cairo when I get a call on my Mobile, “Kevin It’s Klaas, turn back if you can we are in the middle of a sand storm will rearrange for after Christmas” So take 2 we are now in the middle of snow storms in the South of England, again I make my way to Heathrow, the flight is delayed for an hour which was ok! We boarded… and 9 hours later finally took off just in time before the crew went out of hours. Got a cab straight to the Allegria golf course and got on with business. The Greg Norman-designed layout is situated within close proximity to the centre of Cairo, Egypt and sits in the shadows of the ancient pyramids of Giza. The course is surrounded by new housing developements, whereas the course was ready there is still away to go with the buildings. Whilst development is still ongoing with the residential communities, the overriding sense you leave Allegria with is that Egypt has set a marker out for golf and attracting not only the local market, but also appealing to the international golfer and traveller. I think the golf course is something special. A playable and fun test. I’m looking forward to going back as this destination will be one to watch in the future.’
